Mr. Trump: The US will contribute 10 billion USD to the Peace Council

“The United States will contribute 10 billion USD to the Peace Council. Together we will achieve the dream of bringing lasting peace to a land tormented by centuries of war and suffering,” President Donald Trump said at the opening session of the Peace Council in Washington, DC today.

He added that US allies such as Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Morocco, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Uzbekistan have contributed more than 7 billion USD to the Gaza Strip relief package, and affirmed that they want to pursue more peace agreements. “A word that is easy to say but difficult to practice is ‘peace’,” he said.

President Trump also said that the US will increase funding for the United Nations (UN) to help this organization strengthen and operate more effectively, ensuring the good operation of its facilities. “The UN has really great potential, but it hasn’t fully exploited it,” he said.

The Peace Council meeting will also consider how to deploy the International Stabilization Force (ISF) to ensure security in the Gaza Strip.

Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country, announced that it will contribute 8,000 soldiers to this force. US Major General Jasper Jeffers said Indonesia has accepted the position of deputy commander of the ISF.

The Peace Council is considered the most feasible initiative since the conflict broke out in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, creating conditions for relevant parties to dialogue and negotiate to end the conflict, aiming for a sustainable peace solution for the region.

The majority of invited countries have accepted the invitation to participate in the Peace Council, to show support and political commitment, but are in the stage of understanding and developing implementation plans, and have not yet made specific commitments to contribute and participate.

General Secretary To Lam arrived in the US on February 18 to attend the opening meeting of the Peace Council on Gaza at the invitation of President Donald Trump.

The business trip demonstrates support for peace efforts in general and the Gaza Strip reconstruction initiative in particular, contributing to deepening Vietnam-US cooperation in handling regional and global issues, in accordance with the spirit of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
