Report: Saudi Arabia may start enriching uranium on its territory

American congressional documents indicated an option for the deal, but there are also concerns about enrichment in the Kingdom’s territory • One of the reports stated that the Trump administration is targeting 20 nuclear deals around the world • In Israel, they previously expressed concern about a Saudi rush to a nuclear weapons program

As part of a deal with the United States, Saudi Arabia may begin enriching uranium “in one form or another” on its territory, the news agency reported this morning (Friday) AP. According to the report, US congressional documents revealed a desire for such a deal, in which Washington would sell civil nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia under more lenient restrictions. However, the documents revealed that there is still concern in the administration about enrichment in the Saudi kingdom.

According to the report, the Trump administration is targeting 20 nuclear deals around the world, including with Saudi Arabia. The value of such a deal can reach billions of dollars. Trump previously said that he would make sure that the nuclear would be used for civilian purposes only and would not be used for weapons development.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, as well as his predecessor in office, Joe Biden, both tried to reach a nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia, in which American technology would be sold to the kingdom. Experts fear nuclear reactors on the kingdom’s soil, due to fear of a nuclear weapons program and an arms race between Saudi Arabia and Iran, which also aspires to nuclear weapons.

Even before the start of the war, Saudi Arabia wanted to obtain civilian nuclear technology. Israel vetoed and strongly opposed this possibility – and the United States blocked the move. In Israel, they are worried that the new capability will lead to an arms race in the Middle East. There is a great fear that Saudi Arabia will possess nuclear capabilities, and could in a hypothetical situation of “reversing the canes” turn the destructive weapon against the State of Israel.

After the Israeli attack on Qatar, the Saudis signed a mutual defense alliance with Pakistan, which has nuclear weapons. The Pakistani Defense Minister then said that the nuclear program would be “available for Saudi Arabia – if it needs it”.
