Haddad cautiously celebrates Trump’s tariff overturn

In a post on his X account, Haddad declared that Brazil had “the most correct” diplomatic stance. “He believed in dialogue, in the dispute through the competent channels both in the WTO and in the American Judiciary, establishing a direct conversation to talk about relevant topics. Brazil, from the point of view of its bilateral relationship, acted impeccably”, said Haddad.

This Friday (20), American justice considered the tariffs applied by President Donald Trump to be illegal. By a majority of 6 votes to 3, the US Supreme Court, which has a conservative majority, imposed one of the first major defeats on Trump in his second term.

As one of the most affected countries, Brazil received initial tariffs of 50% and was in negotiations to drop these rates. After negotiations, tariffs were reduced to 22%. After the Supreme Court’s decision, Trump announced new global tariffs of 10%, citing alternatives available to the US Congress.
