The EU Council extended sanctions against the Russian Federation

The EU Council Resolution, published on Monday, February 23, in the Official Journal of the European Union, extends for a year sanctions against the Russian Federation imposed for the Russian recognition of “certain non-state-controlled territories of Ukraine.”

These restrictive measures were first introduced on February 23, 2022 by Council Decision (CFSP) 2022/266, the publication recalls.

“Based on the review, decision (CFSP) 2022/266 should be extended until 24 February 2027,” the document says.

The new resolution comes into force on February 24, 2026, the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army.

Earlier it was reported that the European Union added eight more people to the sanctions list for the Russian Federation, Interfax notes.
