Mayor Pezo: ‘Some cities and municipalities have not done anything in waste management’

Dubrovačco-Neretvanski župan Blaž Pezo stated on Thursday that some cities and municipalities in the southernmost Croatian county did not do anything to establish a waste management system, which is their legal obligation.

“I would like to praise Metkovic, Konavle and Orebi which are trying to manage waste and establish that system. But there are municipalities and cities that have not taken any action. We recently had a problem in Pelješac, but that is not the only case,” said Pezo in Dubrovnik after the third working course with mayors and county leaders.

They must know that this is their obligation, he stressed. “When the Waste Management Center of Lucca’s area is finished, which is our duty to complete, the entire system will have to be in operation. I hope that the mayors and chiefs will take it seriously and that this is the deadline to get serious and start establishing that system,” the upan pointed out.

We will follow them, but also supervise them, we need to transfer the culture of waste management in the 21st century to our citizens, emphasized Pezo.

He added that the cities of Dubrovnik and Metković they also have contracts with other municipalities, which should invest more effort. “I expect those municipalities to establish a waste management system,” said the mayor of Dubrovnik-Neretva.

In addition to waste management, the course also discussed health and social welfare, the work of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, public appeals to local self-government units, and the development of cycling infrastructure.
