Iran adopts positive tone after negotiations with the United States, which will continue next week

The Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abás Araqchi maintained that these indirect negotiations were among the most serious that the parties have held and that good progress was made.

On this occasion, the negotiations lasted for about three hours in the morning and another three in the afternoon, unlike the previous round, in which the negotiations lasted half this time.

Araqchi commented to the press in his country that in the long hours of exchanges of ideas and messages there were “good progress” and “the elements of an agreement were seriously entered into”.

“On many issues our positions have come closer, although there are still differences”, he valued.

The momentum that these negotiations seem to have taken is reflected in the fact that they will continue at the level of “technical conversations” next Monday in Vienna, headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

At the heart of these negotiations is a nuclear program that Iran claims is solely for civilian purposes, but which Washington wants to restrict as much as possible to prevent Tehran from having the capacity to produce atomic weapons.

To this end, the US also demands that it deliver what is estimated to be more than 400 kilograms of uranium enriched far beyond what justifies civil use, which Iran rules out.

Likewise, Iran is striving to keep its ballistic missile program out of these negotiations, which it believes that if it is addressed, it should be done in a separate negotiation.
