The Swedish Army confirms that the drone neutralized near a French aircraft carrier was Russian

The Swedish Armed Forces confirmed this Friday that the drone that flew over near the French aircraft carrier ‘Charles de Gaulle’, currently docked in the port of the Swedish city of Malmo, and which was subsequently neutralized, was Russian.

“During a visit to the French aircraft carrier ‘Charles de Gaulle’, a Swedish Armed Forces ship observed a drone taking off from a Russian Intelligence ship in the strait. The Swedish Armed Forces can now confirm that a Russian drone made an unauthorized flight,” it said in a statement.

The Swedish authorities mobilized the ship ‘HMS Rapp’ to “supervise” the transit of the Russian ship ‘Zhigulevsk’ through its territorial waters in the area of ​​the Oresund Strait, although its systems detected “activity” by an unmanned device.

“We monitored this ship during its transit and were able to act quickly to take countermeasures when detecting a drone,” explained the head of the Swedish Army’s operations command, Ewa Skoog Haslum, adding that the Swedish forces determined that the Russian ship “did not act in accordance with the rules and regulations.”

In this sense, he stated that “this type of action is not surprising” on the part of Moscow, although it is “a serious incident that demonstrates the importance of maintaining constant vigilance.” “Our units have acted in an exemplary and professional manner,” he concluded.

The drone was neutralized about 13 kilometers from the aircraft carrier, the flagship of the French Navy that is docked in the Swedish port of Malmo as part of the NATO mission known as Arctic Sentinel. Russian authorities have expressed this Friday that it is “absurd” to hold Moscow responsible for the incident.
