Iran called for an urgent meeting of the Security Council

Iran asked the UN Security Council to convene an emergency meeting to prevent “aggressive actions” by the US and Israel.

“The United Nations Security Council must immediately convene a meeting and take urgent and effective measures to end aggression against Iran,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said today.

According to Mr. Baghaei, the Iranian armed forces will resolutely protect the country with all their capabilities. “This is a war in which we are passive. Iran will wage a national struggle to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he emphasized.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called on regional countries to prevent Washington and Tel Aviv from “abusing their territory to conduct activities against Tehran”. He also called partners in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Iraq to inform them of the latest developments.

According to Foreign Minister Araghchi, the US and Israel’s attack on Iran is a blatant violation of the basic principles of the United Nations Charter and “a crime against international peace and security”.

On the morning of February 28, the US and Israeli militaries launched an attack campaign against Iran, targeting defense and intelligence facilities, as well as a series of high-ranking political officials and generals. Sources familiar with the matter said the attack was “jointly planned for many months” by the US and Israel. Israel is said to be “putting all its strength” into the campaign and the US “also shares the same opinion”.

The Iranian armed forces then quickly launched a response campaign, causing damage in Israel and the US Navy’s 5th Fleet base in Bahrain. Iranian officials also confirmed that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian are both safe.

Leaders and officials of many countries have expressed concern about the US-Israeli airstrike campaign against Iran, and called on relevant parties to exercise utmost restraint and put the lives and safety of civilians first.
