Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called a new summit after developments in the Middle East. The meeting follows this morning’s video conference but will take place in person this evening at Palazzo Chigi. Convened at tonight’s summit, as this morning, are the deputy prime ministers Antonio Tajani and Matteo Salvini, the defense minister, Guido Crosetto, the undersecretaries Fazzolari and Mantovano and the intelligence leaders.
In a note released at the end of the summit held today, Meloni made it known that he will be in contact with the main allies and leaders of the region starting in the next few hours to support any initiative that could lead to an easing of tensions.
Tajani: “No Italians injured”. To tourists “stay in the hotel”
There are no Italian soldiers injured and there are no Italians involved in any military action”, said Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, during a press point at the Farnesina. “Even the Italian Air Force soldiers present in the base in Kuwait attacked with Iranian missiles are all unharmed, they were all in the bunker – added Tajani, explaining that “there was extensive damage to the runway but there are no Italian soldiers injured. An attack was also made on the command of the Fifth Fleet but there are no Italians involved in the entire area, neither civilian nor military”.
“The important thing is not to leave your home or hotels. Many airspaces are closed and it is therefore useless to even go to airports.” This is the advice sent to Italians present in the Middle Eastern region by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani who spoke live on Tg5.
“The embassies, consulates and the crisis unit of the ministry are available to our fellow citizens to provide all useful information”, added the minister.
