The May 3 shipyard has a new owner, Ćorić: ‘They are ready to activate production’

CERP’s board of directors made a unanimous decision to accept the offer of Iskra Shipyard from Šibenik for the purchase of the 3 May Rijeka 1905 shipyard, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Tomislav Ćorić reported on Monday.

Ćorić, who is also the president of the Management Council of the Center for Restructuring and Sales (CERP), said that the offer worth 6.7 million euros is fully in line with the competition, noting that the Iskra Shipyard undertakes the obligation to maintain shipbuilding activities in the area of May 3.

Ćorić stated after the meeting of the Administrative Council of CERP that the new owner is aware of the fact that “full activation of production” requires investments. “As far as I understand, they are ready for it, so I believe that it will happen in the coming period,” said Ćorić.

He added that the development of Iskra Shipyard’s activities in the area of Šibenik from 2020 until today has been very successful, so there is no reason not to believe that the same will be true at the location in Rijeka.

Ćorić: Legally everything is čcertain

When asked by a journalist whether the legal situation is “completely correct” regarding the disposal of own shares, Ćorić said that the very fact of making today’s decision speaks for itself, and that he does not believe “that there was any anomaly in any way”.

“Regarding the decision of the CERP Board of Directors, today we made a decision (…) to send the amount in question here to the company in bankruptcy 3 May Rijeka, based on the agreement between them and the Republic of Croatia”, said Ćorić, repeating that “legally everything is the same” in the entire transaction.

Let us remind you that in mid-January a court settlement was reached whereby the state, after having taken over the ownership of the company last year – K&C Rijeka 3 May 1905, obliged on May 3 to pay around 6.6 million euros to the bankrupt shipyard, and it is expected that the obtained money, among other things, will be fully former workers were paid on May 3, about 300 of them.

In the bankruptcy of the “old” 3 May, which was opened last year in May, it was decided that the business would not continue, the shipbuilding activity at the same location was continued by 3 May Rijeka 1905, and last November CERP received a binding offer to purchase 3 May Rijeka 1905 – from Iskra from Sibenik shipyards.

The starting price of all three shares, a 100 percent share in the share capital, was EUR 6.6 million, and the total nominal value was about EUR 10.3 million, with the condition of maintaining the shipbuilding activity.

Apology for the payment slip for the payment of real estate taxes to those who are not liable

Minister Ćorić he also answered several “off-topic” journalistic questions, as well as the cases of individual citizens who received receipts for paying real estate taxes for the residential buildings in which they live.

He said that he was aware of that and that there was obviously an error, primarily when merging the databases, and that the error would be corrected.

With an apology, he told the citizens that they don’t have to worry because those who live in their properties are not liable for that tax, so they don’t have to pay more. just report to the Tax Administration and “clearly state what it is about”.

Asked what about those citizens who are older paid, the minister said that he did not believe that anyone moreć paid that obligation, given that it happened this morning. “I am sure that our citizens deal with their money rationally and economically, and that all those who know that they should not be liable for this kind of tax, did not even do so,” believes Ćorić.

Ćorić believes in the de-escalation of the conflict in the Middle East

When asked by a journalist how the latest escalation in the Middle East could affect Croatia, including in terms of energy prices and inflation, Ćorić said that Iran announced during the day that it will not block the Strait of Hormuz, which is extremely important from the perspective of global oil supply.

He also said that further escalation of the conflict is not in anyone’s interest and that he wishes the situation to calm down as soon as possible. On the other hand, a strong increase in oil prices, if it were to occur, would reflect on the entire world, European, and then Croatian economy. “It can’t be avoided, so it’s not a scenario we want to go to. Once again, I believe there will be a de-escalation in the coming days,” concluded Ćorić.
