Vietnam opposes attacks on sovereign countries

When asked to provide Vietnam’s response to the current serious escalation of tensions in the Middle East, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang today affirmed that Vietnam’s stance was clearly stated on February 28.

“Vietnam opposes acts of using force to attack sovereign countries, especially on civilian infrastructure, causing many deaths. These actions have caused serious damage and continue to threaten the lives, safety and interests of people, including Vietnamese citizens in the region, destabilizing economic activities, peace and stability of the region and the world,” Ms. Hang said.

According to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnam calls on relevant parties to act responsibly, strictly comply with international law, the Charter and relevant resolutions of the United Nations, respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries, resume negotiations, and create favorable conditions for dialogue towards resolving differences by peaceful means, for the benefit of the people, for peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

On the morning of February 28, the US and Israeli militaries launched an attack campaign against Iran, targeting defense and intelligence facilities, as well as a series of high-ranking officials and generals.

US-Israeli attacks killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and a series of senior Iranian officials. Iran has launched a response campaign targeting Israeli territory, as well as a series of bases housing US forces in many Middle Eastern countries.

The Iranian Red Crescent Society today said the conflict had killed 787 people in the country. The fighting also left at least 11 people dead in Israel, 6 US soldiers and many people in Middle Eastern countries dead.

Vietnamese representative agencies in Gulf countries said they have not recorded any cases of citizens suffering casualties or property damage due to the effects of conflicts in the region.
