Barack Obama attacks Donald Trump. “We live in a time where it can be difficult to have hope, every day we wake up with a new assault on our democratic institutionsanother blow to the rule of law, an offense to the sense of decency”, said the former president of the United States in the funeral oration for the Reverend Jesse Jackson, thus launching a harsh criticism of Trump and his administration, without directly pronouncing the president’s name.
“With every awakening we see things we didn’t think possible, every day we are told by those in high places to fear us and attack each other and that some Americans matter more than others and that some don’t matter at all”, continued Obama who, together with the other former Democratic presidents, Bill Clinton and Joe Biden, attended the funeral in Chicago of the leader of the civil rights movement who died last month at the age of 84.
“Everywhere we see that greed and intolerance are celebrated, along with bullying and teasing disguised as strength”, Obama said again, evidently referring to the era of the second Trump presidency. The former president however concluded with a message of hope, looking precisely at the example of Jackson who “inspired us to choose the difficult path, his voice calls us all to be messengers of change and hope”.
