DNA comparison confirms death of a young firefighter in Bavaria

Since the flood disaster in Bavaria in 2024, a young firefighter was considered missing: Now a pair of fire pants containing remains has been assigned to the missing 22-year-old. As the police reported, forensic doctors from Ulm were able to confirm the identity of the fatality with a DNA report.

After almost two years, the relatives are now certain that the young firefighter from Offingen died in the floods. He is the fifth person to die from the flood in Bavaria at that time.

Divers find no further traces in the Danube

The trousers containing the remains were discovered on March 4th during survey work on the Danube between Dillingen and Steinheim. Last Tuesday, the area surrounding the site was searched by police divers and other emergency services. However, no further traces of the 22-year-old were found in the water or in the bank area, the police said.

The firefighter had an accident with a boat on June 2, 2024 during the floods near Offingen in the Günzburg district. The DLRG water rescue boat, which was manned by five emergency services, capsized in strong currents. The other four occupants were able to escape to land, but the 22-year-old remained missing.
