Pezeshkian accuses the US and Israel of “seeking the division of Islamic countries” during a call with Al Sisi

The president of Iran, Masud Pezeshkian, accused this Friday the United States and Israel of “seeking the vision of Islamic countries”, in addition to having “sinister intentions” in relation to Iranian territory, against which both countries launched a military offensive on February 28.

This was expressed during a telephone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattá al Sisi, whom he thanked for “opposing war, instability and insecurity in the region.” “We welcome any initiative that strengthens unity and cohesion,” he clarified, according to information collected by the Iranian television channel IRIB.

For his part, Al Sisi has taken the opportunity to “categorically” condemn Iran’s attacks against Gulf countries in response to American and Israeli attacks. “These countries did not support or participate in the war against Iran but rather contributed to efforts to reduce tension and supported negotiations between Iran and the United States to achieve a diplomatic solution,” according to a statement from the Egyptian Presidency.

Al Sisi has affirmed that Egypt defends the principle of “good neighborliness” and has called for these attacks to be stopped “immediately.” In this sense, he has shown his “serious concern” about the current situation in the Middle East and “the well-being of the people” in the area.

Furthermore, the parties have put on the table possible ways to end the increase in tension and have underlined Egypt’s willingness “to make all necessary efforts to mediate and prioritize political and diplomatic solutions to the current crisis.” That is why they have asked all parties to “respect International Law and the United Nations Charter, as well as the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the States.”
