Israel denounced a wave of anti-Semitism

Police and firefighters responded Friday night to a jewish school located south of the Dutch capital, Amsterdam where an explosion occurred followed by a fire that caused minor damage to the exterior of the building.

“This is a cowardly act of aggression against the Jewish community. “I understand the fear and anger of the Jews of Amsterdam,” the city’s mayor, Femke Halsema, said in a statement carried by local media.

Likewise, Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten called the attack “terrible” and said he would begin talks with the Jewish community. “They should always feel safe in our country”he added.

According to authorities, surveillance cameras recorded a person placing and detonating the explosive on the outside wall of the school.

This attack adds to an explosion in front of a synagogue in Rotterdamwhich occurred on Thursday, and another attack in a synagogue in Liège (Belgium) last Monday.

Police in the Netherlands yesterday arrested four young people, one of them a minor, suspected of the explosion at the Rotterdam synagogue.

“Two nights in a row, a cowardly attack with an explosive device against a Jewish building,” Dutch Justice Minister David van Weel was quoted as saying by local media, adding that “thanks to security measures and surveillance, further damage was avoided.”

He Israeli Foreign Ministry reported this Saturday a “epidemic of anti-Semitism” in the Netherlands after an explosion at night outside a Jewish school in Amsterdam.

“An epidemic of anti-Semitism is raging in the Netherlands,” the ministry denounced in a statement published in X.

“Where will the next attack take place?”asks Israel, which believes that “the Dutch government must do much more to fight anti-Semitism.”
