Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reiterated in a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday that Turkey is ready to host the next round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. Fidan highlighted the risks that a long-term war represents for both countries in the region and for the international order, and the ministers also discussed issues related to energy security, the same source announced.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Russian-Turkish energy cooperation was mentioned in the conversation between Fidan and Lavrov, with a special emphasis on securing the Blue Stream and Turkish Stream gas pipelines amid, as Moscow said, Ukraine’s attempts to damage their infrastructure.
Last week, Russia reported that it had prevented Ukrainian attacks on its Gazprom-operated gas pumping stations, which are part of the network that delivers gas to Europe via Turkish Stream and Blue Stream.
