President Donald Trump has announced that US forces “no longer need allies” in the war against Iran.
“Most NATO ‘allies’ have informed the United States that they do not want to be involved in our military action against the terrorist regime of Iran in the Middle East,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social website, adding, “and because we are having military success, we no longer need or want help from NATO countries.”
In recent days, the head of the White House complained that world powers refuse to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz to escort oil tankers. Today he insisted that he was not surprised.
“NATO, where we spend hundreds of billions of dollars, has always been a one-way street: we protect them, but they do nothing for us, especially when we are in need,” Trump wrote.
Hours before the post, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that Paris would not participate in the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. Great Britain also rejected Washington’s request for help.
