China asks to avoid more deaths in the Middle East and commits to mediate a ceasefire

The Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, urged this Wednesday to avoid more deaths in the context of the war in the Middle East, insisting on diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire to the offensive launched by the United States and Israel that has lasted almost 20 days.

In statements collected by the Xinhua agency, in the context of the meeting with the special envoy of the United Arab Emirates, Jaldun Khalifa al Mubarak, the Chinese diplomatic chief has asked to stop the war and highlighted Beijing’s commitment to mediation efforts to achieve a ceasefire.

China has been critical from day one of the “unacceptable” attack by the United States and Israel against Iran, insisting that there was an open diplomatic process to resolve differences between Washington and Tehran and demanding that military operations cease.

The Asian giant has opposed the escalation of tensions, since it is one of the actors most dependent on Iranian crude oil and may be affected by the instability around the Strait of Hormuz, the scene of attacks in recent weeks.
