Iran | Fragments of an Iranian missile damage three private planes at Tel Aviv airport

According to data from Israeli army around half of the Iranian missiles fired at Israel since February 28 carry cluster warheads, designed to disperse several dozen submunitions over a radius that can reach 10 kilometers when detonated.

Each submunition is made of steel and carries an explosive charge of between 3 and 20 kilos. Some larger missiles, such as the Iranian Khorramshahr, can disperse around 80 of these bombs.

The dispersion of submunitions means that they are more difficult to intercept and that damage is not concentrated in a single point. Additionally, some of these small bombs do not explode on impact, creating an additional risk.
