Iran retaliates: Gas facilities in Qatar and Saudi Arabia attacked

According to the US-Israeli Attack on an Iranian facility in the world’s largest natural gas field are in Qatar and Saudi Arabia gas plants was attacked – apparently these were retaliatory strikes by Tehran. In Saudi Arabia, a drone was intercepted approaching a gas field in the east of the country. “A drone that approached a gas plant in the eastern province was intercepted and destroyed,” the Defense Ministry in Riyadh said on Wednesday evening. No damage was caused.

Tehran had announced retaliation

Tehran had previously announced retaliation for the US-Israeli attack on its most important gas field. The Iranian military threatened to hit “the source of aggression” hard. It is considering targeting “the fuel, energy and gas infrastructure” of the countries from which the attacks were launched. Iranian state television released a list of “legitimate targets” that include oil and gas facilities in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

According to Iranian state television, the US-Israeli attack on Wednesday hit several facilities in the special energy economic zone in the port city of Asalujeh on the Persian Gulf and a fire broke out. The affected facilities belong to the South Pars/North Dome gas field, which Iran shares with the Gulf Emirate of Qatar, located on the opposite coast. Iran produces around 70 percent of its domestic gas needs from the world’s largest gas field.

Qatar’s state energy company QatarEnergy confirms rocket attacks on the industrial city of Ras Laffan. Serious damage was caused. The company said rescue workers were on duty to contain fires. There are currently no reports of victims. All employees are safe. Iranian state media had announced attacks on oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
