The mood in the Trump camp is apparently threatening to change

The Strait of Hormuz is still blocked for tankers. NATO’s international partners did not bow to pressure from the US President, but made it clear: This is your war – not ours. Now it looks as if the mood among Trump’s supporters is also changing in the USA.

Because the US President had repeatedly railed against “forever wars” – i.e. wars without end. During the election campaign he also promised not to start unnecessary new wars. The fact that these promises could now be broken is making Trump’s supporters in American politics nervous, according to the US magazine “Politico”. At the beginning of the Iran war, they were still counting on the president being able to quickly fulfill his goals and declare the war over.

After all, Trump gave different or vague information about when the war in Iran should end and what exactly the goals are. The hope among his supporters was that the operation in Iran would be over as quickly as was the case with the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Maduro at the beginning of January.

Now, however, some of his supporters believe that Trump is no longer able to control how or when the war will end. This is how “Politico” describes the mood among Trump followers after conversations with insiders.

Concerns about US troops being deployed on the ground are growing

A source close to the government said: “We’ve obviously kicked Iran, but now they’re largely in charge.” It also depends on Iran whether the USA would be forced to launch ground offensives. “And it seems to me that there is no way around it if we want to save face.”

In view of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and the resulting sharp rise in oil and gasoline prices, some Republicans fear, according to Politico, that the conflict could soon become a political burden for the White House. In the run-up to the midterms next November, the government is already struggling with voters’ frustration over the high cost of living.

According to US economist EJ Antoni, the American economy may not be able to cope with the costs caused by the war. Antoni was appointed by Trump to head the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) in 2025. “I don’t think this economy can sustain an oil price of $100 a barrel, it’s just not possible,” he told the Financial Times. “The economy is weaker than we thought and inflation is higher than we thought.”

Warning about the use of ground troops

But the danger to the tankers in the Strait of Hormuz could be difficult to eliminate without ground operations on the Iranian coast. The fact that additional military forces have now been ordered to the region has increased concerns in Trump’s “America First” camp. This apparently also includes the amphibious warship “USS Tripoli” with more than 2,000 Navy personnel.

While the past has shown again and again that a war can hardly be won with air strikes alone, the memories of Vietnam or Iraq continue to fuel fears of an unwanted “forever war”.

However, some of the strongest voices from the Trump camp are apparently warning that the government should not initiate any hasty ground operations.

In the US government, on the other hand, people are emphatically relaxed. “Politico” quotes White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly: The government was prepared for all of Iran’s moves “thanks to a detailed planning process.” “President Trump was well aware that Iran would seek to impede freedom of navigation and the free flow of energy,” she said. “The President has also made it clear that any disruptions to energy supplies are temporary and will bring enormous long-term benefits to our country and the global economy.”

Israel and the USA have been attacking Iran from the air since February 28th. More than 1,400 people have already been killed in Iran, including 13 Americans. Iranian attacks with missiles and drones have now been significantly reduced and have fallen by 90 and 95 percent, respectively, as “Politico” reports.
