The US Intelligence Director says that the objectives of Israel and the US in the war against Iran are “different”

The US Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, stated this Thursday before a House Intelligence Committee that the objectives of Israel and the United States are “different” with respect to the war in Iran.

“We can see through the operations that the Israeli Government has been focused on incapacitating the Iranian leadership and eliminating several members, obviously starting with the ayatollah and the supreme leader. They continue to focus on that effort,” she said after being asked by Texas Democratic Congressman Joaquín Castro.

Gabbard has argued that US President Donald Trump has stated that “his goals are to destroy Iran’s ballistic missile launch capacity, its missile production capacity,” as well as its Navy, Revolutionary Guard naval forces and its mine capabilities.

At another point in the hearing, Gabbard referred again to the fact that Iran “maintained its intention to rebuild its infrastructure and nuclear enrichment capacity” after the US attacks in June last year against its facilities during the 12-day war.

In this sense, the Director of National Intelligence has insisted that it is up to the president “what is an imminent threat” and what is not, words that she already spoke the day before in an Intelligence committee of the US Senate.

His testimony comes after the resignation of the former director of the US National Counterterrorism Center, Joe Kent, due to disagreements with the Donald Trump Administration over the war in Iran, a conflict that he does not see justified and that he attributes to “pressure from Israel and its influential lobby in the United States.”

“I cannot, in good conscience, support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran did not represent an imminent threat to our nation,” Kent said, rejecting Trump’s claim that Tehran was planning to attack the United States before.
