Koalas hide among stuffed animals at an Australian souvenir shop

Video posted on social media on March 18 shows a passenger looking at souvenirs in a store at Hobart Airport in Tasmania, Australia, before spotting a brush-tailed possum poking its head among the stuffed animals lined up on the shelves.

Liam Bloomfield, store manager, said staff and customers were excited about it. “The passenger reported the news to the staff during the shift, making her extremely surprised. Then the staff called the airport management to report: ‘There is a koala in the store,'” Bloomfield recounted.

Airport representatives said the ferret remained calm when staff took it out of the terminal and no incidents occurred. It’s unclear how the animal got into the store and hid among the stuffed animals.

The souvenir shop employees are also naming the animal. “We will set up a small commemorative corner for it. After naming it, we will print a beautiful photo and place it in the store so people will always remember this ferret,” Bloomfield shared.

The brush-tailed possum is one of five species of possum that lives in Tasmania. They forage at night and are highly adaptable to the environment.
