Survey: US citizens expect ground war in Iran – but reject it

Trump’s general approval rating among the population rose by one percentage point to 40 percent. The margin of error in the survey completed on Thursday was about three percent.

37 percent of Americans support attack

The survey comes amid reports that the US government is considering sending thousands of additional troops to the Middle East. The US attacks on Iran so far have met with broad approval among Trump’s Republican supporters.

Among Republicans, 77 percent support the attacks, compared to six percent of Democrats. Overall, according to the survey, 37 percent of Americans approve of military action, while 59 percent oppose it.
