Cross-border solidarity: thousands of Jews in Hungary will pray on Seder night

About 6,500 Jewish families across the country are currently receiving hand-made reserved unleavened bread packages, but alongside the traditional unleavened bread, this time they are waiting for a personal and emotional appeal concerning the security events in Israel.

The text sent to the Jews of Hungary emphasizes the historical parallel between the Egyptian oppressive regime in ancient times and the dark regimes that threaten Israel today, and asks to dedicate one minute of concentration and prayer for the security forces of Israel and the United States.

“This is a special opportunity to make contact with the Jews of the country and remind them of their Judaism,” says Rabbi Glitzenstein. “We are sure that the initiative will connect the Jews of Hungary with the Jews of Israel, and are convinced that the prayer that will rise from every Seder table here will break the heavens.”

It seems that this year, more than ever, the matzah – “the bread of poverty” – will become in Budapest a symbol of unity and shared fate with those who live in Zion.
