The Saudi crown prince pressures Trump: continue the war

According to sources who spoke with the New York Times, bin Salman calls the actions in Iran a “historic opportunity”, and pushes the president to overthrow the regime.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman urges Trump to continue the war against Iran, and claims that the joint US-Israeli military operation provides a “historic opportunity” to reshape the Middle East – as reported today (Tuesday) in the New York Times.

According to the report, bin Salman conveyed the message in several conversations in the last week, saying that there should be pressure to overthrow the extremist regime in Iran. The Saudi crown prince claimed that Iran is a long-term threat to the Gulf, and there is no way to remove it except by removing the regime.

It was also reported that Bin Salman told Trump that the U.S. should consider sending troops to Iran to take over the energy infrastructure and cause regime change. When Trump expressed concerns about rising oil prices and damage to the economy, Bin Salman made it clear that these were only temporary consequences.

Saudi Arabia denied the report in the New York Times, and claimed: “Saudi Arabia has always supported a peaceful solution to the conflict – even before it began.”

“Our main concern today is to protect ourselves from the daily attacks on our people and our civilian infrastructure,” Saudi officials said. “Iran chose a dangerous confrontation over serious diplomatic solutions.”

The report in the New York Times was published after President Trump announced yesterday that the United States was in talks with Iran. He refused to say with whom the talks were taking place, but clarified that it was a senior person. This morning, three senior Israeli officials told Reuters: Trump seems determined to reach a deal with Iran, it is unlikely that Iran will agree to the US demands.
