A successor to the liquidated Larijani has been appointed in Iran

Iran has appointed a new secretary of the Supreme National Security Council. Ali Larijani’s successor was Mohammad Bagher Zolhadr, a former senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Mehdi Tabatabaei, deputy to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, said on social media X that the appointment was approved by the supreme leader and officially made by the president.

Mohammad Bagher Zolhadr previously held important positions in the security forces, including the position of Deputy Minister of the Interior for Security Affairs and a number of senior positions in the command structure of the Iranian armed forces.

It should be noted that a few days ago the media reported that Hossein Dehghan became Larijani’s successor. However, this information has not been confirmed.

Ali Larijani was killed in Tehran on March 17.
