Tens of thousands of protesters march against the far right in London

Some 50,000 people, according to the Police, half a million according to the organizers, took to the streets of central London this Saturday to protest against the extreme right.

“We estimate that there are half a million people in the demonstration, the largest demonstration in history against the extreme right. It gives us confidence to continue. Thank you very much,” proclaimed a spokesperson for Alianza Juntos, organizer of the protest, Kevin Courtney, from Whitehall.

The first estimate from the London Metropolitan Police puts the number of attendees at 50,000, dispersed throughout the center of the British capital. Furthermore, the march coincides and converges with a Palestinian Coalition demonstration. Both columns have met in Hyde Park.

“No to borders! No to countries! Let’s stop the deportations!” chanted from the group Leicester Front Racism. “You cannot divide us”, “Refugees, welcome”, “Fight ignorance, not immigrants” or “This world belongs to everyone” have been some of the slogans that have been read on the banners.

Personalities such as former Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn, members of the band UB40, Lenny Henry, Paloma Faith, Billy Bragg and Leigh-Anne Pinnock have participated in the march. The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and the leader of the Green Party, Zack Polansiki, have also expressed their support for the protest.

A small group of counter-protesters has gathered with Israeli flags and the official Iranian flag during the monarchical period, with the sun and the lion in the center, without any incidents having occurred so far.
