“Masked police who sow terror”, “catastrophic war”, “abusive” practice of power: processions against Donald Trump began to march across the United States on Saturday, where millions of demonstrators are expected, from New York to Alaska.

This is the third time in less than a year that America has been called to take to the streets by a coalition of associations united around the rallying cry “No Kings”, which has emerged as the most important protest movement since the billionaire’s return to the White House.

The first, which was held in June 2025 – the day of the 79th birthday of the American president and a military parade in Washington – brought together several million people across the country.

Trump’s popularity rating at its lowest

More than a thousand people began marching in Atlanta (southeast) and in Washington, the capital, where several rallies are planned for the day. In the suburbs of Detroit (north), demonstrators gathered in the morning despite negative temperatures.

And, with Donald Trump’s popularity rating at its lowest – around 40% – and the prospect of mid-term elections in November, organizers are expecting several million demonstrators across the country. On the other side of the Atlantic, in Rome, Amsterdam and Madrid, rallies against the American president also took place.

“Since our last demonstration, this government has plunged us further into war. At home, we have seen citizens killed in the streets by militarized forces. We saw families torn apart and immigrant communities targeted,” summarizes Naveed Shah, head of Common Defense, a veterans’ organization that is a member of the No Kings coalition.

More than 3,000 rallies are planned – a number on the rise – in major cities, New York, Chicago and even Washington, also in the suburbs and rural areas, and even in Kotzebue, a small town in Alaska beyond the Arctic Circle, or on the Caribbean archipelago of Puerto Rico, an American territory.

Minneapolis, the epicenter at the start of the year of Donald Trump’s brutal anti-immigration offensive and its popular protest, must be the nerve center with its twin city, Saint-Paul.

Bruce Springsteen, the American rock legend, fierce critic of the American president, is expected there with his song “Streets of Minneapolis”, written and recorded in 24 hours in tribute to the two Americans who fell under the bullets of federal agents in the middle of the street during massive operations by the immigration police, Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

“The residents of Minnesota (where Minneapolis is located, Editor’s note) have already proven that they are ready to defend democracy in -20°C, so Saturday will be a piece of cake! », Launched the local organizers. Octogenarian senator Bernie Sanders, a figure of the American left, is also announced.

“Masked secret police who sow terror in our communities. Illegal and catastrophic war that puts us in danger and increases our expenses. Attacks on our free speech and civil rights. Costs that push families to the brink. Trump wants to govern us like a tyrant,” protests the No Kings collective.

“What began in 2025 as a simple day of defiance has transformed into a long-term national resistance against tyranny,” writes the movement, which believes it has “never been so powerful”.

Organizers say two-thirds of people who have expressed their intention to join Saturday’s demonstrations live outside major cities, which represents a marked increase compared to the previous day of mobilization.
