Yemen’s Houthis launch missiles at Israel and increase tension

In an official statement, the group said it had fired a series of missiles at “sensitive Israeli military targets”, including the Beersheba region in southern Israel. According to Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree, the offensive represents a response to the escalation of attacks involving Iran, Lebanon, Iraq and the Palestinian territories, as well as a gesture of support for the so-called “resistance fronts”.

Earlier, this Saturday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that it had intercepted a missile launched from Yemeni territory. Despite the interception, the action reignites concerns among analysts about the possibility of the conflict gaining new fronts.

The Houthis also stated that their military operations will continue until the end of what they classify as “aggression” against their allies. The group also threatened to resume blockades and attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea if offensives in the region are not stopped.

The move represents a change in stance, after a period of relative operational calm by the rebels in recent months. On Friday night (27), the group had already signaled the possibility of direct involvement in the conflict. In a televised statement, Yahya Saree declared that the Houthi forces have their “hands on the trigger” and are ready to intervene if the offensive against Iran is expanded.

Among the conditions cited by the spokesman are the formation of new alliances with the United States and Israel against Tehran and the use of the Red Sea for military operations against Iranian territory or other Muslim countries. The speech also included an appeal for Washington and Tel Aviv to avoid escalating the conflict, indicating that the group’s response will depend on the development of military actions in the region.
