The foreign ministers of China and Pakistan on Monday, March 31, called for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the war in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East, demanding that peace talks begin as soon as possible.
The countries unveiled a joint five-point initiative to restore peace and stability in the region, Al-Monitor writes.
The plan provides for: 1. an immediate ceasefire; 2. start of negotiations; 3. stopping attacks on infrastructure; 4. opening of the Strait of Hormuz; 5. signing of a peace agreement with the support of the UN.
The statement was issued during Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar’s visit to Beijing at the invitation of the Chinese side.
Pakistan is already acting as a mediator between the US and Iran and is preparing to host direct negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
