US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said this Wednesday (8) at a press conference that Iran will “voluntarily” hand over uranium, as part of the ceasefire agreement announced the previous day.
“The president has been clear from the beginning: there will be no Iranian nuclear weapons. Period. Other presidents have said that. President Trump has delivered,” commented the head of the Pentagon, referring to the president’s speech this morning that the US would work with Iran to “unearth and remove” its uranium stockpiles.
According to Hegseth, if there is any change in the fragile ceasefire established, the American military can use other methods to achieve the objective of disarming the regime. He cited as an example Operation Midnight Hammer, a series of bombings launched in June last year against nuclear installations in the country.
The Secretary of War also stated that the US is prepared to strike bridges and power plants in Iran if the agreement is broken.
Asked during the press conference about the threat made by Trump the previous day that “an entire civilization would die”, Hegseth said that the US had a defined target, “ready to be hit, in infrastructure, bridges and power plants”.
The countries involved in the conflict accepted a mediation proposal from Pakistan on the night Trump’s ultimatum expired. The plan presented by the country’s prime minister includes two central points: the suspension of hostilities for two weeks and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz during that period as a gesture of goodwill on Tehran’s part.
Although the regime announced that it would accept the conditions established during this period, Israel and Gulf countries reported new attacks with missiles and drones launched by Iran in the hours following the announcement of a ceasefire.
