US consul announces interest in nuclear deal with Brazil

According to him, “the USA has a project to quadruple nuclear capacity by 2050 and American companies are global pioneers in this technology”. The diplomat added that nuclear energy in Brazil is an ally for this plan due to the growing demands of technology, artificial intelligence and data centers.

In his words, “Brazil has a menu of energy sources and is a model for the world.” One of the focuses of this project would be related to offshore oil and gas operations.

Rowlands also stated that the relationship between the US and Brazil is in a “much better place” today than it was months or a year ago. The consul highlighted that dialogue – meetings and calls – between the governments of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Donald Trump is more frequent than with Democratic predecessor Joe Biden. “We hope that this dialogue, at the highest level, continues,” he said.

Without naming countries, the American diplomat took the moment to criticize importers from Brazil who prioritize products with lower added value.

“It is impressive how deeply integrated our economies are. Unlike Brazil’s other partners who import raw materials and commodities, the US imports products with higher added value,” he said.
