Hungary: Dramatic polls indicate a loss for Viktor Orban in the elections

The Hungarian opposition party “Flight” is on its way to a historic victory and a two-thirds majority in the parliament in the elections to be held this Sunday. This is according to a forecast by the “Median” polling institute, which was published yesterday (Wednesday). According to Reuters, winning a supermajority would allow the party to amend the constitution and pass key laws needed to release billions of euros in frozen EU funds.

Orban’s election campaign has also suffered recently due to reports of collusion and close cooperation with Moscow. Magyar, a former associate of Orban, knew how to ride the wave of discontent and promised to fight corruption, tax the rich and restore the country’s collapsing health care system. “This is our last chance to prevent the country from becoming a Russian puppet state,” Magyar told a rally of his supporters this week, according to a Reuters report. “We should not allow Fidesz to take Hungary out of the European Union.”
