Britain holds talks to open Hormuz without Iran’s fees next week

An informed British official said on Friday that Britain will hold a new round of talks with its allies next week regarding ways to open the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic without resorting to paying fees to Iran.

The official added that officials from the British Foreign Office are scheduled to meet with their counterparts from the countries that participated in the talks that took place on April 2, led by British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.

The official stated that the discussions will include “coordinated economic and political measures, including possible sanctions and ways to ensure the release of thousands of ships and sailors stranded in the strait.”

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Iran has no negotiating “cards” in the upcoming discussions with the United States in Pakistan, except for controlling maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, which is vital for energy supplies.
“The Iranians do not seem to realize that they have no cards in their hands except to blackmail the world in the short term by using international waterways,” Trump wrote on his platform, Truth Social. The only reason they are alive today is to negotiate!”
