“There is no political conflict and contradiction here.”  Erdogan about sentencing Imamoglu to prison

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the courts could correct any mistakes, if any. Erdogan said this after the court’s decision to sentence one of his main rivals, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, to two years and seven months in prison and ban him from political activity.

“The court accepted that verdict only because the accused insulted the judges, there is no political or ideological conflict and contradiction here,” Erdogan said.

Imamoglu intends to appeal the verdict.
