Germany’s highest traditional windmill has fallen victim to the cyclone that swept across the country. The mayor of Klettbach, where the mill stood, has announced this.
It is a so-called post mill, which rotates around a central pole. That pole was broken down in Klettbach on Saturday morning due to the strong wind. “The mill is our landmark. This event left us speechless,” said Mayor Franziska Hildebrandt. She hopes that the mill can still be rebuilt.
The post mill is the oldest type of windmill in Europe. The Klettbach mill stood 438 meters above sea level, making it the highest post mill in Germany.
