The United States supports the refusal of a number of European countries to pay in rubles for Russian natural gas supplies, said White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield.
“I think the German chancellor has made it clear that the agreements are as they are, there will be no changes,” he said.
The White House views Moscow’s demand as artificial support for the ruble by Russia’s central bank.
Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on a new order of payments for Russian gas supplies from April 1.
