Journalist Andrei Babitsky died in Donetsk at the age of 57.
Babitsky was a correspondent for Radio Liberty from 1989 to 2014. He actively covered the war in Chechnya. He was the only Russian media representative who was exchanged by the special services for captured military personnel in Chechnya, although no one recognized Babitsky as a combatant (a person directly involved in hostilities as part of the armed forces.
In 2014, Babitsky openly supported the reunification of Crimea with Russia and the people’s republics of Donbass, for which he was fired from Radio Liberty. Since 2014, he has lived and worked in Donetsk, hosted an author’s TV show on the Oplot TV channel, and wrote for Russian media such as Vzglyad and Life.
In recent years, Babitsky was also the author of the Ukraina.ru website.
