UNRWA reports one million Palestinians have fled Rafah

The UN agency for Palestine refugees said about a million people have fled Rafah in the past three weeks. The statement highlights the extremely dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

“People have no safe place – under conditions of bombing, lack of food and water. They live in heaps of garbage, there are no minimum living conditions. Every day, protection and provision of assistance are becoming almost impossible,” the statement said.

Since May 6, the Israeli army has been conducting a limited operation in eastern Rafah. The head of the Israeli government, Benjamin Netanyahu, says that without occupying the city and destroying the militants located here, victory over the terrorist group Hamas is impossible.
