Horror in the American water park: A man fired 30 bullets from a gun, 10 were wounded

More than 10 people, including children, were wounded in a shooting at a water park near Detroit on Saturday night, police said, characterizing the incident as a random shooting.

The suspect was still at large late Saturday, but police said they believe he was cornered at a nearby home. A gun was found at the scene, the police announced.

A man fired about 30 shots from a semi-automatic Glock caliber 9 mm at Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad Park in Rochester Hills in the federal state of Michigan around 5 pm local time. Attacksč loaded the gun several times, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said at a news conference.

It was not immediately clear if there were any fatalities, said police, who initially reported that five people had been killed.

Rochester Hills is located about 50 kilometers north of Detroit. The neighboring community of Oxford Township, also in Oakland County, was the scene of a mass school shooting in 2021 in which then-15-year-old student Ethan Crumbley killed four students and wounded six other students and teachers in Oxford High School.

“This is a gut punch for us here in Oakland County,” Bouchard said. “We have been through so many tragedies. We don’t even fully understand what happened in Oxford,” he added.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said on X that her “heart broke” when she learned of the Rochester Hills shooting.
