Dedicates a song to Kiev, Rod Stewart booed in concert

Rod Stewart was booed during a concert in Germany for voicing his support for Ukraine. The British pop star delivered tribute to Kiev introducing the song “Rhythm of My Heart” during the sold-out show in Leipzig, but, reports news outlet Tag 24, he was greeted with boos and whistles.

Wearing the colors of the Ukrainian flag, he dedicated the song to the Ukrainian people and army before insult Russian President Vladimir Putin. As he performed the song, images of the war, the Ukrainian flag and President Volodymyr Zelensky showed on the screen behind him.

The audience responded with a chorus of boos. His support for Ukraine had been well received in previous concerts in Copenhagen and Amsterdam, but in Germany public opinion remains divided: there are those who fear that support for Kiev will end up intensifying the war and those who complain about the amount of money spending for Ukraine.

Germany’s far-left and far-right parties that oppose government support for Ukraine both made major gains in last week’s European elections.
