Andrea Giambruno,former partner of Italy’s Prime Minister Georgia Meloni,has sued around 20 journalists for defamation.
“They said terrible things about him as a father, partner and man,” said Giambruno’s lawyer Annamaria Bernardini of Pace According to the Italian news agency ANSA on Thursday evening.
Sexist remarks lead to separation
Last October, TV journalist Giambruno came under fire for sexist remarks. A report published by the private TV station Channel 5 broadcast satirical show audio recordings from the editorial daily routine of one of Giambruno’s talk shows.
The conversations were secretly recorded. Giambruno can be heard making lewd and sexist remarks to female colleagues.
Prime Minister Meloni then announced her separation from the television journalist, the father of her seven-year-old daughter Ginevra is“My relationship with Andrea Giambruno, which lasted almost ten years, is over. Our paths separated some time ago and now is the time to act,” the 47-year-old Prime Minister wrote at the time.
“It was all just a joke”
According to the lawyer, Giambruno was joking with his colleagues. “No woman complained or felt insulted, it was all just a joke,” the lawyer stressed. She expressed the hope that Giambruno and Meloni would reconcile.
“I sincerely hope so, because he is very much in love with her,” said the lawyer.
