Jenni Rivera posthumously honored with star on Walk of Fame

Latina star Jenni Rivera (1969-2012) was posthumously honored with a star on the “Walk of Fame” in the heart of Hollywood. The singer’s five children unveiled the 2783rd star plaque on the famous “Walk of Fame” in memory of their mother. Mexican singer Gloria Trevi paid tribute to the deceased musician as a guest speaker.

Born in Long Beach, California, to Mexican immigrants, Rivera began her career as a singer and songwriter in the 1990s. She was considered one of the most popular singers of Norteño and Banda music, which are very popular in Mexico and among Mexican immigrants in the United States. She made a name for herself as “La Diva de la Banda” (The Banda Diva).

During her lifetime, Rivera sold over 15 million albums in Mexico and the USA and was nominated for a Grammy Latino award four times. Even after her death, her music continues to sell millions of copies. The singer died in December 2012 when her private plane crashed in northern Mexico.
