A2: Customs stops smuggler with 58,000 cigarettes after chase

Magdeburg – The cigarette smuggler tries to get away at over 200 km/h, but in vain!

Last Monday, customs officials noticed a car with Polish license plates on the A2 near Magdeburg was on its way towards Hanover.

“When the driver noticed the customs officers’ interest in his vehicle, he tried to evade the upcoming inspection by braking, changing lanes and speeding,” said Christian Kläres from Main Customs Office Magdeburg.

Wild chase at over 200 km/h

The man (41) ignored the stop signal and tried to escape from the officers with risky maneuvers and at a speed of over 200 km/h. He even wanted to turn around on the highway!

As a result, the Highway police called in and asked for backup. Finally, the Opel was brought to a stop just before the Bornstedt exit. The man was arrested.

Polish smuggler faces two trials

Reason for the escape attempt: a cargo of almost 58,000 Cigarettes! Kläres: “The tax damage prevented amounts to around 11,000 euros.”
