A criminal case has been opened against historian Tamara Eidelman

A criminal case has been opened against historian Tamara Eidelman under Part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Russian Criminal Code (rehabilitation of Nazism), Meduza reports, citing the Moscow prosecutor’s office.

The case was initiated on the basis of materials from an investigation conducted by the city prosecutor’s office.

On June 21, the Moscow prosecutor’s office announced that it had discovered statements in the author’s program on the historian’s channel (probably referring to her YouTube channel “History Lessons with Tamara Eidelman”) that “express clear disrespect for the day of military glory of Russia and the memorable date of Russia associated with defense of the Fatherland, as well as insulting the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland.”

Tamara Eidelman was declared a “foreign agent” in Russia in September 2022. In March 2024, the Dorogomilovsky Court of Moscow imposed a fine of 50 thousand rubles on the historian for not marking her as a “foreign agent” in her posts on social networks. Edelman was not present at the trial – she left Russia and lives abroad.
