Heavy fighting in northern and southern Gaza Strip amid 'unbearable' living conditions

Israel continued its attacks on Gaza on Saturday, with heavy fighting raging in the territory where living conditions are “unbearable,” according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip said in a statement on Saturday that more than 35 Palestinians were victims of Israeli attacks on Gaza neighborhoods and refugee camps, bringing the total toll to no less than 37,834 Palestinians killed and 86,858 injured in the ongoing Israeli military attack on the Strip since October 7. /October.

Violent battles took place between the Israeli army and Hamas fighters yesterday, Saturday, in the northern Gaza Strip. The living conditions of the population are “unbearable,” according to UNRWA.

Israeli forces continued their advance into two areas in the north and south of the Gaza Strip, while Palestinian health officials said tank shelling in Rafah killed at least 11 people. The Israeli military said Saturday that its operations were continuing in the Shujaiya neighborhood east of Gaza City, where fighting “above and below ground” had killed “a large number” of militants, it said.

An Agence France-Presse correspondent reported that continuous explosions sounded in the Shujaiya area. One of the residents pointed to bodies in the street.

Those fleeing with their family members from the Shuja’iya neighborhood due to the Israeli “bombing” said that they did not take anything with them from their homes, but rather left everything and miraculously survived. Reporters for Arab television said that people are running and do not know where to go, and everyone is afraid because people are dying in the streets and homes from the bombing.

The Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip announced that “four martyrs and six injuries were recovered from an Israeli targeting of a residential apartment” in the center of the Strip. In Rafah, in the far south of the Gaza Strip, medics said they recovered “five martyrs” after targeting the Al-Shakoush area, north of Al-Mawasi.

The World Health Organization said on Friday that 32 hospitals out of 36 in the Gaza Strip have been damaged since October 7, and 20 of them are out of service.

A United Nations spokeswoman said on Friday that Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip are forced to live in buildings or camps destroyed by bombing next to huge piles of garbage. She denounced the “unbearable” conditions in the Strip. Louise Waterridge of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) presented the “extremely harsh” living conditions in the Gaza Strip.

A UN-backed assessment this week said nearly half a million people in Gaza were still suffering from “catastrophic” hunger.

The IPC website states that it was created “to replace potential political interventions with technical neutrality,” and that its criteria are based on international standards.

But an Israeli government spokesman downplayed the report, calling it “biased,” and saying that was partly because it was “based on data from Hamas-affiliated health institutions.” Netanyahu’s announcement of a slump in heavy fighting comes as his right-wing coalition faces a series of pressures.

Thousands of demonstrators gathered again in front of his residence in Jerusalem on Thursday, demanding an agreement to release the hostages, according to an Agence France-Presse correspondent.

In the Tel Aviv area, police dispersed a demonstration of extremist religious people who protested against a Supreme Court decision stipulating that they should be conscripted into the army.

In addition, the Axios news website reported, citing three informed sources, that the United States has proposed new wording for parts of the proposed ceasefire and hostage release agreement between Israel and Hamas in an effort to conclude the agreement. (Agencies)
