AfD announces immediate withdrawal from ID Party

The German AfD leaves the European party alliance ID The deputy party leader Peter Boehringer announced the federal executive board’s decision on Sunday at the party conference in Essen.

The move was expected. The delegates had previously given the federal executive board the authority to make such decisions by a two-thirds majority. The ID – short for Identity and Democracy – is a Merger right-wing populist and nationalist Parties.

No rapprochement with the ID faction

The AfD only joined the ID party last year. In the ID faction in the European Parliament it was already there before. However, after controversial statements by AfD top candidate Maximilian Krah about the National Socialist SS, the parliamentary group excluded the AfD group shortly before the European elections.

Even the AfD’s decision after the election to exclude Krah from its group did not bring about a rapprochement with the ID faction. However, the AfD was still a member of the ID party.
