The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine published data on the losses of the Russian army on the 860th day of the war

On July 2, 2024, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine published new data on the losses of the Russian army during military operations on Ukrainian territory (since February 24, 2022). It is the 860th day of the war, and the data for the previous day has been taken into account.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the losses of the Russian army are as follows:

personnel – about 545,090 (+1,280) people

airplanes – 360 (+0)

helicopters – 326 (+0)

tanks – 8107 (+8)

armored personnel carriers/armored vehicles/BMP – 15566 (+16)

artillery systems – 14655 (+56)

Air defense systems – 874 (+0)

motor vehicles, including fuel trucks – 19787 (+74)

The reports of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not include data on Russian aircraft and sea vessels destroyed or damaged as a result of sabotage outside of Ukraine.

Russian authorities claim that the Ukrainian side is spreading false information about the losses of Russian troops.

On December 12, 2023, the media published data from a declassified US intelligence document, according to which the Russian army lost 315 thousand servicemen killed and wounded during the war in Ukraine (87% of the personnel of the forces involved at the start of the full-scale invasion). According to US intelligence estimates, the losses in personnel and armored vehicles set back the modernization of the Russian army by 18 years.

Confirmed losses of the Russian army and pro-Russian military structures in Ukraine (we are talking about verified data from open sources collected by the editorial staff of “Mediazona”) amount to about 56,900 people killed (according to known names) or about 85,000 (according to inheritance cases). Researchers admit that the real losses may be several times higher. The publication says: “The real number of the dead may be several times higher. In addition, the number of missing and captured is unknown.”

According to confirmed UN data, since February 24, 2022, about 11,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed (including about 540 minors), and more than 20,000 have been injured. At the same time, the UN emphasizes that this only concerns verified incidents, and the real figures are “significantly higher.” The Ukrainian authorities claim that tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilians have died (the largest number of victims in Mariupol, according to local authorities, more than 20,000).
