Holidaymaker finds 1,000 kilos of cocaine on beach of German Wadden Island

The tourist discovered several suspicious bags on the beach of Borkum in April, tied with a life jacket. The island is located just north of the Dutch Groningen, but is part of Germany. The woman immediately alerted the police. They initially did not go into detail about what exactly had been found. An investigation is still ongoing.

It is not the first time that bags of drugs have washed up on the beaches of the German North Sea coast. In 2021, workers discovered 25 kilos of cocaine on a dike in the town of Aurich, and in the same year a similar amount washed up on the Wadden island of Baltrum.
